Defensive driving is important not only for automobile drivers, but also for motorcycle riders, as Gainesville drivers learned on Wednesday, March 16.

On the afternoon of March 16th, a man, later to be identified as Eric Michael McManus, 32, was travelling eastbound on his motorcycle on Northeast 23rd Avenue when the driver of a Cadillac, facing North on Second Street, tried to turn left onto 23rd Avenue, directly into McManus’s path.

Motorcyclists will soon be heading to Central Florida for Daytona's bike week. This annual event, now in its 73rd year, attracts motorcyclists from around the country and is known as the world’s largest motorcycle event. This year’s event takes place from March 7 to March 16 and is expected once again to draw a large crowd. It is easy to forget that motorcycle accidents can happen anywhere, even among the many experienced riders who will be attending Bike Week. For this reason, it is important for both riders and spectators to brush up on some some of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s tips before participating in any Bike Week festivities.

Baltimore Ravens’ Torrey Smith Personally Impacted by Motorcycle Accident

The Baltimore Ravens’ win against the New England Patriots in September was a comeback game for more than one reason. Not only did the Ravens come from behind with the help of two crucial touchdowns in order to narrowly win the game by just one point, but the person who caught those touchdown passes had just comeback from 24 devastating hours in his life.

The night before this exciting game, Torrey Smith, wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens, lost his younger brother to a terrible motorcycle accident. Smith’s younger brother, Tevin Jones, passed away after a motorcycle accident late that Saturday night. Torrey Smith was awakened in the middle of the night with the news, and rushed home to be with his family: his mother and five younger siblings.
